Bower is a platform that allows users to scan anything with a barcode, from milk cartons to crisp packets, and earn money, rewards, or discounts when they send the packaging to a recycling station. It was co-founded in 2015 by brother and sister pair Suwar Mert (CEO) and Berfin Roza Mert (COO).
Users may register any product and any recycling facility they take it to using the free app, which is accessible on both Android and iOS. Users are continuously reporting new barcodes and recycling stations to help Bower expand its reach, and the app’s data bank is generated through crowdsourcing. Rewards can be claimed in the form of points that can be swapped for coupons that give consumers discounts on future purchases, or they can be redeemed for cash.
This money may be deposited directly into users’ bank accounts, sent to a friend, or donated to charity. So far, Bower has contributed more than €12,300 to charity.
Bower works with companies including Nestlé, L’Oréal, and Unilever to assist them achieve their sustainability objectives. Companies may use the app’s data to track the life cycles of their products and get insight into customer behavior in terms of item types, recycling times, and locations.
